Moscow - Russian President Vladimir Putin said that during a meeting he and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko agreed on implementing the humanitarian aid plan for Luhansk and Donetsk residents.

“We have agreed that we will implement the plan, proposed by President Poroshenko, to help people in need in Luhansk and Donetsk and will follow the path proposed to us: we will unload food and cargo necessary by railroad. This was his proposal and I agreed with it,” Putin said in an interview with Channel One, a fragment of which was aired on Aug. 29 evening.

The meeting was honest, Putin said.

“In general, it seemed to me the meeting was very good, quite honest. In my point of view, Petro Oleksiyovych is a partner, with whom dialogue can be held,” the Russian president said.

“Of course, I would like it that everything we have agreed on is implemented,” Putin said.

“It is necessary to provide humanitarian assistance to people who are in the conflict zone now. We talked with President Poroshenko about this as well and he treats with understanding what Russia is doing. I suppose that we should meet the Ukrainian authorities halfway in this regard,” Putin said.

It is hoped that Poroshenko has heard Moscow’s arguments, Putin said. “I hope yes,” Putin said when asked a relevant question.
