You're reading: Putin spokesman denies Russia, EU embroiled in “tug-of-war” over Ukraine

There has been no "tug-of-war" between Russia and the European Union over Ukraine, said Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman.

“There neither was nor is any tug-of-war over Ukraine,” Dmitry Peskov told Russia’s Rossiya 24 television.

He slammed Western politicians who have been visiting sites of mass pro-EU demonstrations in Kyiv. “I think that, of course, our Ukrainian partners have more than enough emotions. Unfortunately, they get heated by various guests from abroad who are hanging around on [Independence] Square,” he said.

In reference to criticism of the coverage of the developments in Ukraine by Russian media, Peskov said: “When somebody can’t control their emotions they may come to such conclusions, which are probably far from being able to claim any objectivity.”
