Vladimir Putin is dealing from a position of strength. What does Viktor Yanukovych have to offer to sweeten the pot? Sell the Ukrainian gas pipeline system to Gazprom for a fraction of what it is worth? Join the Russian dominated Customs Union? If so, Ukrainian Independence would be seriously compromised if not destroyed. How would that be perceived on election day? Vitya is a cornered rat and he knows it.
