The Kyiv-based PZU insurance company from October 2013 introduced an additional service to its insurance program for people going abroad – on the refusal by Poland to grant visas for trips to that country, if applications are made through the visa center, the company told Interfax-Ukraine.

If insured people are refused a visa to Poland, they will get compensation covering the money spent on the visa application. The claim liability payment under this option totals Hr 600.

The PZU also reported that in one or two months it is going to extend this service to cover all of the countries of Schengen Zone.

PZU has been working in Ukraine for 20 years, and has accreditation at Polish consulates. Due to this, PZU can offer people traveling to Poland special insurance conditions under its Standard Poland program.

This policy covers medical expenses for the treatment in foreign hospitals (including dental treatment) worth EUR 30,000, as well expenses for the transportation of an injured person to Ukraine. The insurance conditions match the demands of the “Decision of the Council of Europe 2004/17 on Medical Insurance of People Traveling Abroad” (obligatory from June 2012) and take into account a period of insurance for the term of the visit plus 15 days.
