The Ukrainian parliament intends to introduce biometric passports for traveling abroad in compliance with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

A total of 243 lawmakers voted at first reading for the bill on identity cards and documents confirming citizenship of Ukraine on Tuesday.

A biometric passport is an identity document containing an electronic chip that stores biometric information that can be used to authenticate the identity of travelers.
