The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has demanded that Russia withdraws all illegal armed formations in eastern Ukraine and stops supporting terrorist organizations in the region, as well as demanding that Russia punishes all those guilty of preparing and participating in aggression against Ukraine.

“[The parliament] demands [Russia] to bring to account persons guilty in planning, staging, starting and carrying out aggression against Ukraine and committing military crimes and crimes against humanity. If Russia refuses to punish those guilty, Ukraine reserves its right to appeal to the International Criminal Court (ICC) asking it to investigate the situation caused by Russian armed aggression against Ukraine, lasting since February 20, 2014,” reads the parliamentary statement “On Russian armed aggression, rebuffing and overcoming its consequences,” which was adopted at a plenary session on April 21.

A total of 259 MPs voted in favor of the statement.

The statement will authorize the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to present official claims against the aggressor state.
