The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law which obliges TV and radio broadcasting companies to disclose their ownership structure, including their ultimate beneficial owners.

All in all, 237 deputies voted for the law on amendments to some laws on ensuring the transparency of media ownership, as well as the implementation of state policy principles on television and radio broadcasting.

According to the law, TV and radio companies will be required to make public the entire structure of their owners and ultimate beneficiaries on their websites, as well as submit this information to the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council, in particular when obtaining licenses.

The law includes the amendment of MP Mykola Kniazhytsky (People’s Front), which states that “in Ukraine legal entities and individuals being the residents of the country, recognized by the Verkhovna Rada as an aggressor or an occupier, are banned from founding, participating in TV and radio broadcasting organizations and program services providers.”
