The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, is planning to increase fines for littering in residential area and recreation zones.

A total of 259 MPs voted for a respective bill on June 14.

The document envisages amendments to the Code of Administrative Offences, as well as the laws on the police and on the improvement of residential areas, according to which citizens will be warned or liable to pay a fine of one to three nontaxable minimum incomes (Hr 17 – Hr 51) for littering.

If the volume of garbage is big from 0.01 to 1 cubic meter, the fine will increase up to three to ten nontaxable minimum incomes (Hr 51 – Hr 170). If the volume is higher than 1 cubic meter, the fine will amount to 10-100 nontaxable minimum incomes (Hr 170 – Hr 1,700).

In addition, the Verkhovna Rada passed a bill on landscapes, which contains legal and organizational regulations on the preservation of landscapes, landscape planning, and the monitoring, controls and registration of the condition and development of landscapes.
