Ukrainian parliament Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov has officially announced the dissolution of the European Choice parliamentary coalition in Ukraine's parliament.
Earlier on July 24, the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform, “Svoboda” factions and 19 independent lawmakers announced their exit from the coalition in the Verkhovna Rada.
The coalition called European Choice comprised of 250 deputies was
set up at the Rada on February 27, 2014. The coalition was formed by the
factions of Batkivschyna, UDAR, Svoboda, Economic Development,
Sovereign European Ukraine, and other MPs.
If no new coalition is formed within 30 days following the previous
one’s dissolution, this would entitle the president to dissolve the
Verkhovna Rada and call early parliamentary elections.
The UDAR faction currently comprises 41, Svoboda 35, Batkivschyna 86,
Economic Development 41, and Sovereign European Ukraine 35
parliamentarians.
Another 86 deputies belong to the parliamentary faction of the Party
of Regions, 23 to the Communist Party’s faction, which was dissolved on
Thursday, and 34 to the For Peace and Stability group.
As of Thursday morning, 72 parliamentarians did not belong to any faction or group.
A ruling coalition is supposed to comprise at least 226 parliamentarians.
