Donetsk City Council has denied the information disseminated on social networking sites that the radiation levels climbed in Donetsk following the explosions in the city's chemical plant.

“According to information disseminated on social networking sites, the radiation levels increased sharply in Donetsk due to the explosions in the Donetsk chemical plant. According to the official information provided by the Ukrainian Emergency Stations Ministry in Donetsk region, this information is false,” the city council said.

The city council said the radiation levels in Donetsk are normal.

According to earlier reports, two explosions occurred in the Donetsk chemical plant on Saturday morning, Sept. 20. The first explosion was caused by shelling and the second one was caused by detonating explosives.

The Donetsk chemical plant is part of the state-run concern Ukroboronprom.
