You're reading: Rally on Independence Square to continue until final revision of tax code

Demonstrators protesting against the new tax code in downtown Kyiv are not going to remove their tents and are planning to hold a large-scale rally on Thursday to prevent parliament overriding the president's veto.

"The Misto Voli (Freedom City tent camp) will continue to exist, though this has been a small victory for us [the veto on the Tax Code]. We will probably hold a rally on Thursday so that MPs didn’t dare to overcome the veto," one of the organizers of the rally, Volodymyr Dorosh, said.

According to him, the organizers of the protest action will follow the fate of the Tax Code, and will insist that its authors take into account their demands. The protesters would like the new version of the law to be developed in the first half of 2011, and the code to come into force in 2012.

"We cannot say now that the new Tax Code will be better than the one that has been vetoed," Dorosh said.
