You're reading: Regions Party claims opposition’s actions aimed at splitting Ukraine

Events in recent days and last night in Ukraine show that the leaders of the opposition have completely failed to control the actions of protesters in the Ukrainian capital, the press service of the Party of Regions said in a statement on Friday.

“The situation has escalated across the whole country, especially in the western regions. In a number of Ukrainian cities – Ternopil, Lviv, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk and Khmelnytsky – extremists have seized the buildings of regional state administrations. Attempts to storm the regional state administrations were also made in Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Poltava, Chernivtsi and Sumy. The ongoing seizure of administrative buildings and the desire to paralyze the work of local executive government agencies in the regions and commit banditry on the streets of Ukrainian cities shows one thing – the actions of the opposition leaders and their foreign sponsors are aimed at splitting Ukraine,” reads the statement.

The party said that “only dialog and the search for compromise will help preserve the integrity of our state and normalize life in the country.”

“Do not allow yourself to be led by extremists, do not support radical instigators! Only common sense and the implementation and observance of laws by each person will save our families and our state,” reads the statement.

“The Regions Party, as a responsible political force whose ranks now include more than a million people, declares with full responsibility that we will not allow a split of Ukraine and the overthrow of the legally elected authorities,” reads the statement.
