You're reading: Regions Party sees no grounds for early parliamentary elections

The leader of the Regions Party faction in parliament, Oleksandr Yefremov, has said he sees no grounds for possible early parliamentary elections.

“I think that we currently have no grounds to talk about any early elections,” he said at a briefing on Tuesday, when asked whether early parliamentary elections will be held, as envisaged by the Constitution of Ukraine, if the Verkhovna Rada fails to open its session within 30 days.

“We can hardly be intimidated by this. I think that it’s most likely a hasty political statement by a person who is just gaining experience in political work,” Yefremov said, while commenting on a statement made by UDAR Party leader Vitali Klitschko that his party is ready for early parliamentary elections if the next session of parliament does not open within 30 days.

“I have great respect for Vitali Klitschko as an athlete. Unfortunately, his assistants sometimes drive him into a corner during the adoption of political decisions,” Yefremov said.
