You're reading: Regions Party signs cooperation agreement with Cyprian Progressive Party of Working People

Chairman of the Regions Party Mykola Azarov and Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Progressive Party of Working People of Cyprus Andros Kyprianou have signed a cooperation agreement between their parties on October 11.

“We attach great importance to the development of partnership with Cyprus. We remember an official visit of the president of Cyprus to Ukraine in 2011, during which we discussed many important issues. And, of course, we appreciate the position of Cyprus, which currently presides in the European Union,” Azarov said.

The process of preparation of two important agreements on marine trade and on prevention of double taxation between Ukraine and Cyprus was also discussed during the meeting. These documents are to be signed during the forthcoming visit of the Ukrainian president to Cyprus.

While speaking about the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine, Azarov stressed that for the Regions Party, which is the ruling party today, it is very important to hold fair and transparent elections.

“We are doing everything to ensure that the elections are held in a fair, democratic, and completely transparent way,” Azarov said.

He also added that Ukraine has carried out many tasks while preparing the Association Agreement with the EU and brought it to the stage of initialing.

“We hope that after the elections the European Union together with us will promote the entry of this Agreement into force, and the execution of all procedures related to the ratification,” Azarov said.

In turn, Kyprianou said that the relations between Ukraine and Cyprus have improved.

“The visit of the president of the Republic of Cyprus to Ukraine last year contributed to the signing of important bilateral agreements, which significantly improved our cooperation,” he noted.

He also expressed hope that the coming visit of the president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych would also bring a lot of positive in the relations between the countries.

“The cooperation agreement between the Regions Party and our party will help to strengthen cooperation not only between our two parties, but also between our countries,” Kyprianou said.

“We received a lot of important information about the upcoming elections in Ukraine. According to the information, the elections should be open and fair. This is the basis of democracy. We wish success to the Regions Party at the elections,” he said.
