You're reading: Regions Party won’t nominate candidate for Kyiv mayoral elections

The Regions Party is not going to nominate a candidate for the post of Kyiv mayor, said head of the Kyiv city branch of the Regions Party Nestor Shufrych.

“The Party of Regions won’t nominate its candidacy for the mayoral
elections in Kyiv,” he said at a press conference hosted by
Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

According to Shufrych, the party’s members intended to nominate
ex-chief of Kyiv city state administration, Oleksandr Popov. “But,
unfortunately, the November 29 events and latter attempt to accuse him
of events he was not involved in, created relative conditions under
which he would find it extremely difficult to take part in the
elections,” the MP said.

Besides, Popov has refused to take part in the elections himself.

“Being respectful to him [Popov], it was decided not to change the
candidacy, and to refuse to take part in the elections of Kyiv city
mayor altogether,” he said.

Moreover, he said that the capital’s branch of the party approved
five candidates as potential deputies of Kyiv city council: Nestor
Shufrych, Volodymyr Filippov, Vadym Ivanchenko, Anatoliy Pavlenko, and
Serhiy Troshyn.
