You're reading: Renzi says no peace in Europe without peace in Ukraine

During a recent visit to Kyiv, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi spoke in favor of comprehensive support of Ukraine from the European Union.

“Our visit shows that our relations with Ukraine are constructive […] Our joint efforts should be directed at the observance and implementation of the Minsk agreements,” he told reporters after meeting with Ukrainian President petro Poroshenko in Kyiv on March 4.

Renzi assured Ukraine of the support from Italy and the other EU countries in the current crisis in Ukraine.

“This country is not only experiencing military problems. No doubt, all of its partners and friends should make an effort to resolve the economic problems of Ukraine. We are talking about bilateral ties, about technological decisions, and our readiness to work together in an expert environment as advisers,” he said.

The Italian prime minister also spoke for the organization of bilateral meetings to discuss such cooperation.

“We are not removing the importance and our interest in returning peace to Ukraine from our agenda. Because there is no doubt that without peace in Ukraine there will be no peace in Europe,” Renzi said.

Renzi said he believes that, if peace is being disrupted, “Europe should absolutely dynamically react to that and not remain indifferent.”

He also confirmed his invitation to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to visit Italy.
