Strasbourg, April 28 (Interfax) - The Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) has refused to recognize the large-scale famine that took place in the Soviet Union during the 1930s as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Only 21 assembly members voted for recognizing Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people, while 55 voted against corresponding amendments to the draft resolution on the issue, an Interfax correspondent reported.

PACE will soon pass the resolution following a debate that has lasted for over two hours.
