You're reading: Rich Ukrainians still prefer Hilton and Hyatt, according to Luxury Index 2012

The Hilton and Hyatt hotels for two years running lead in the hotels category of the Luxury Index rating of luxury brands drawn up by Ukrainian Marketing Group (UMG).

The results of the Luxury Index 2012 were announced at the press conference hosted by Interfax agency on Thursday.

"What hotels does our reach audience consider to be prestigious? Hilton, Hyatt – the leaders this and last year, the Ritz-Carlton, the Intercontinental and the Waldorf-Astoria. Many of our respondents at least once in the last five to seven years have been to America and in particular to New York, and stayed at the Waldorf-Astoria," UMG Director General Artur Herasymov said.

According to him, 400 Ukrainians with an annual family income of more than Hr 1.2 million participated in the poll.

Herasymov also reported that in 2012 the company extended the rating, adding two more categories: women’s clothing and women’s shoes. The rating now consists of eight categories: cars, watches, men’s clothing, women’s clothing, women’s bags, women’s shoes, jewelry, and hotels.

At the same time, during the study, four main categories were identified as decisive when choosing goods and services: quality, originality of the brand, its use by people of definite circles, and a feeling of affiliation to the class f people using a brand.

According to UMG director, after the study it was established that the higher the income people have, the more often they buy goods abroad, and the better they know the location of Discount Malls with luxury brands.

In the category of cars, the Maybach with 369 points took first place, then was Rolls-Royce (255 points), and Bentley (204).

"In the rating of this year Mercedes-Benz and Audi moved up a bit, while in the first rating Audi was not in the first ten and Mercedes-Benz was on the edge of the first ten. Now Mercedes-Benz is in fifth position in the rating, and Audi is ninth," he said.

He also saod that in the watch category, Rolex is in first place (459 points) as in 2011, Cartier is second (192) and Patek Philippe (152) is third. As for Omega, it was in the first ten, but dropped from fourth to sixth place.

As Herasymov said, the leaders in the category of women’s clothes were Chanel (248 points), while Louis Vuitton (207) and Dior (191) held second and third places respectively. As for men’s brands, Brioni (256), Armani (235) and Louis Vuitton (233) got the highest points.

In the women’s bags category, the leaders are Chanel (281), Louis Vuitton (180) and Gucci (153), while in the women’s shoes category Prada (189), Chanel (126) and Gucci (117) got the highest points.

Herasymov also reported that in the jewelry category Cartier (370), Tiffany & Co (358) and Boucheron (195) took the leading positions.
