You're reading: Right Sector calls for continuing protests until resignation of Avakov

The leadership of the Right Sector movement has urged activists and supporters to continue protests that began in several Ukrainian cities on Saturday until the fulfillment of a number of conditions related to the developments in Mukacheve.

“We are calling for the continuation of political actions until the arrest of the persons who in the Right Sector’s opinion are responsible for the tragedy (People’s Deputy Mykhailo) Lanio and (leader of Ukrainian Choice Viktor) Medvedchuk and the dismissal of the entire leadership of law enforcement bodies in Zakarpattia region and Interior Minister Arsen Avakov,” says a statement of the Right Sector leadership posted on the Facebook page of its leader Dmytro Yarosh on Sunday morning.

The statement says that movement leaders, including Yarosh, would go to the area of Mukacheve where Right Sector members are surrounded by the Security Service of Ukraine and the police.

The protesters of Right Sector activists and supporters have started in Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk and Kyiv in relation to the shootout between movement members and the police in Mukacheve which resulted in injuries and loss of life.
