Kharkiv – The Rise, Ukraine! opposition rally in Kharkiv will be held on April 12, on the day of another court hearing of a criminal case against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is charged with the financial irregularities of the UESU Corporation, the press service of the Kharkiv regional branch of the Batkivschyna Party has reported.

“A group of protesters will march from Rosa Luxemburg Square to Rudneva Square, where Kharkiv Regional Court of Appeals will hold a court hearing. The march, to be led by opposition leaders Arseniy Yatseniuk, Oleh Tiahnybok and Vitali Klitschko, will start at 1500,” the press service reported.

Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor Hennadiy Tiurin said on April 8 that Tymoshenko could be taken to court on April 12.

A preliminary hearing of the case was held on April 19, 2012 in the absence of Tymoshenko. Since then the court has been putting off hearings due to the fact that Tymoshenko kept refusing to attend the hearings for health reasons.

On October 11, 2011, Pechersky District Court in Kyiv sentenced Tymoshenko to seven years in prison for abuse of office in signing gas contracts with Russia in 2009. She has served her sentence in Kachanivska Penal Colony in Kharkiv since late December 2011.

On May 9, 2012, Tymoshenko was transferred to Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv to undergo a course of treatment.
