BRUSSELS – European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has invited heads of state and government of the EU countries to the informal dinner.

The venue of informal dinner is Brussels, May 27, 2014, a few days after European citizens will have cast their vote for the European Parliament, reads an invitation letter posted on the Web site of the European Council on May 21.

“I would like us to discuss the outcome of the elections and to look at what we can learn from its results. It will be too early to decide about names. We will talk about the process leading to the European Council proposing a candidate for the future Presidency of the Commission to the European Parliament for election,” writes Rompuy.

Besides, the president said it is necessary to cover the results of the presidential elections in Ukraine, which will be held simultaneously with the European ones.

“Following the presidential elections in Ukraine and ahead of the G7 meeting in Brussels, we will naturally also exchange views on related developments,” he said.
