You're reading: Roshen confectionary shop attacked in Kyiv

A Roshen Corporation confectionary shop near Pozniaky subway station in Kyiv was attacked in the early hours of Jan. 19 morning.

“The attack took place at about 1 a.m. Kyiv time. Investigators are working at the scene,” a Roshen spokeswoman told Interfax-Ukraine.

“Security camera images suggest there were two assailants. They threw stones, smashing the shop window and fled. A note attached to a stone read: “Payment for Undelivered Promises.”

Four attacks have been carried out against Roshen confectionary shops in Kyiv in January. An assailant was detained.

“Such acts are neither a picket, nor a peaceful protest, nor a violent seizure, but a provocation,” the company stated.

Roshen Corporation, one of Ukraine’s largest confectionery producers, is comprised of production facilities in Kyiv, Kremenchuk and Vinnytsya, a dairy product factory – Bershad Moloko – in the Vinnytsya oblast, two production facilities in Russia’s Lipetsk oblast, Klaipeda chocolate factory in Lithuania and the Bonbonetti Choco factory in Hungary.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who owns the Roshen Corporation, had pledged to sell his business interests after becoming president. He said in late December that the corporation could be sold to its management in installments if no other buyers emerge.
