LIPETSK - The confectionery factories owned by Ukraine's Roshen company in Lipetsk and Sentsovo (Lipetsk region) on Nov. 24 launched lay-offs, the senior PR manager at Lipetsk Roshen Confectionery Factory, Irina Vakhonina, has told Interfax.

“The reduction in staff is due a steep decline in demand for our produce. It is assumed it could affect 411 people – both blue-collar workers and managers, and will be effected in stages. At present two Roshen confectionery factories in Lipetsk employ about 1,500 people,” she said.

The lay-offs could account for 27.4 percent of the personnel.

As reported, Roshen confectionery factories in Lipetsk and Sentsovo (Lipetsk Oblast) as of Sept. 15 suspended operations for two weeks.

“We have sweets stocks in our warehouses in Lipetsk for this period. The term of resuming production will depend on the demand for our products. The fact is that because of the political situation in Ukraine the demand for Roshen sweets in Russia fell by 30 percent, and the company is sustaining huge losses,” the expert said.
