Moscow - Russia may ban new types of Ukrainian food products, Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being (Rospotrebnadzor) head, Russian chief public health official Anna Popova said.

“Unfortunately, the list has been expanded. The products belong to
the risk group. Regretfully, our control showed that the list might
continue to expand. The tests have been done by various laboratories in
all constituent territories of the Russian Federation and they have
brought identical results – a broad range of products fail to meet the
requirements,” she told reporters in Moscow on Wednesday, July 23.

Popova said the flawed Ukrainian products were being recalled.

“The list of these products is broadening, from baby food juice and
beer to canned vegetables and dairy products. There are different
violations, and consumer rights are breached frequently,” she said.

“Canned fish is the latest example: the dry weight ratio falls short
of the standard, as the sauce weight is much bigger than the fish
weight. This is our latest discovery,” she said.

Earlier the Russian sanitary authorities banned the imports of cheese and some other dairy products from Ukrainian factories.

Popova said on July 1 the Russian sanitary authorities had new claims
against the quality of Ukrainian products supplied to the Russian
market.

“We have been witnessing the deterioration of product quality in a
number of areas. We have to state an increase in the volume of inferior
cheese, dairy products and canned vegetables,” she said in reply to an
Interfax question.

The imports of Ukrainian Roshen confectionery products are also banned.
