Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin attended an open meeting of the enlarged bureau of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs in Brussels on July 22, which discussed current developments in Ukraine.

Klimkin thanked European Parliament deputies for their strong support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and European aspirations by Ukraine, which was reflected in the resolution dated July 17, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s press service said.

At the same time, Klimkin said he regrets that the Russian leaders continue ignoring demands by the international community that the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine be de-escalated.

“Even after the terrorist attack on a Malaysia Airlines plane, Russia hasn’t stopped illegal arms and military equipment shipments to Ukraine,” the press services said.

The minister also stressed the need that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s peace plan should be implemented unconditionally.

Klimkin thanked the European Parliament for non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea and raised the issue of numerous human rights violation cases seen in Crimea recently.

“The minister pointed out to a number of infringements by Russia on international humanitarian rules during the unlawful transportation of Ukrainian Air Force officer Nadia Savchenko across the [Ukrainian-Russian] state border and her apprehension in Russia,” the press service said.
