The State Border Service of Ukraine has reported that Russia, despite Ukraine's decision to close a number of checkpoints in Luhansk and Donetsk regions, continues the operation of its border checkpoints in some directions.

“For unknown reasons, the Russian Federal Security Service’s Border Service continues the operation of the Novoshakhtinsk border checkpoint (the Dolzhansky checkpoint from the Ukrainian side) and violates the bilateral agreements, thus contributing to illegal movement through the state border,” the service said in a statement posted on its official Web site on Tuesday.

In this regard, the State Border Service of Ukraine informed the Foreign Ministry and provided all the necessary information for a response at the international level.

“In addition, another letter was sent to the Border Service of the Russian FSB regarding the need to stop crossing operations at the said checkpoints,” the service reported.

The State Border Service recalled that due to the security situation the Cabinet of Ministers had decided to temporarily close a number of checkpoints in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The decision concerns seven checkpoints in Luhansk region and one in Donetsk region. On June 5, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry informed the Russian side of this decision through diplomatic channels, and this report was also passed through border commissioners.
