You're reading: Russia dismisses rumors of issuing passports to Crimeans

The Russian Consulate General in Simferopol is neither issuing, nor going to issue passports to the Ukrainians, who have relatives in Russia, in a fast-track procedure.

“This is a complete folly and spread of rumors. The Consulate General
is working as usual, no preparations are being made to issue such
documents. This is someone’s wishful thinking,” the Russian Consul
General in Sevastopol, Vyacheslav Svetlichny, told Interfax-Ukraine.

“We know that the relevant bill has been submitted with the State
Duma but the bill has yet to be discussed and no decision has been made
yet,” the high-ranking diplomat said.

Russia started issuing passports to the Crimean Ukrainians who have
close relatives in Russia, Ukrainian media outlets said earlier.
