You're reading: Russia issues almost one million passports in Crimea

The Russian Federal Migration Service (FMS) is about to issue a million Russian passport in Crimea, FMS Chief Konstantin Romodanovsky said on June 19.

“A total of 1.35 million applications for passports have been taken.
About 1.2 passports have been issued and over 900,000 of them have
already been handed over,” Romodanovsky said.

“We are getting ready to issue a millionth passport in Crimea,” he said.

The FMS has said it planned to complete most work related to issuing
passports to Crimean residents by late June. After this passports will
be issued on a scheduled basis.

Twenty thousand Russian passports are issued in Crimea daily and FMS
staff in Crimea exceeds 1,000 people, FMS Deputy Head Anatoly Fomenko said  in May.
