Chisinau - Negotiations on opening a Russian consulate in Tiraspol will be continued next week during consultations between the Russian and Moldovan Foreign Ministries.

Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin discussed the opening of a Russian consulate in Balti in northern Moldova and in Tiraspol, the Moldovan government press service told Interfax.

“The former requires only formal steps, and as for Tiraspol, the negotiators agreed to continue discussions, including during consultations between the Foreign Ministries on November 22,” it said.

The press service quoted Rogozin as saying that “Russia is interested in continuing to develop a constructive dialogue with the Republic of Moldova.”

He praised intensification of Moldovan-Russian dialogue in the past months, suggesting that has been prompted, inter alia, by the Moldovan prime minister’s visit to Moscow and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Filat said Moldova is interested in increasing investments and enlargement of cooperation with Russia in pursuing joint projects.

Filat and Rogozin considered a broad range of issues pertaining to bilateral relations, cooperation within the CIS and the Transdniestria settlement process.

In addition, the parties discussed economic relations, pointing to stable growth in the volumes of trade between the two countries, which reached $2 billion in 2011 and could be 20% higher by the end of 2012.
