ST. PETERSBURG - The Russian Investigative Committee is investigating 40 cases of crimes committed in Ukraine against Russian nationals, the Committee head said on May 26.

“We are asked why we investigate crimes committed in Ukraine. We have a right to do that if Russian nationals are affected, the Criminal Code allows it, in particular it allows investigating crimes against Russians, including war crimes. We have opened 40 criminal cases, and not only against Ukrainian leaders but also against some military officers and soldiers,” Alexander Bastrykin told the Youth Legal Forum.

He added that international treaties allow Russia to investigate war crimes against its nationals.
