You're reading: Russia opens corridor for evacuation of wounded, dead Ukrainian servicemen across border

Rostov-on-Don - 12 injured Ukrainian servicemen who underwent medical treatment in Russia and the bodies of two dead ones have been delivered to the Gukovo and Novoshakhtinsk checkpoints at the Russian-Ukrainian border, Vasily Malayev, a spokesman for the Federal Security Service (FSB) border department for the Rostov region, told Interfax on Saturday, July 26.

“Four wounded and the body of one dead Ukrainian serviceman have been delivered to the Gukovo checkpoint and eight wounded and one dead Ukrainian servicemen have been delivered to the Novoshakhtinsk checkpoint to be handed over to Ukraine through an open humanitarian corridor,” Malayev said.

In response to Ukraine’s request, Russia also opened humanitarian corridors at other checkpoints on Saturday to evacuate the injured and dead Ukrainian servicemen to their home country, he said.
