Moscow, February 26 (Interfax) - Moscow does not rule out the possibility of Ukraine joining the tripartite customs union, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko.

"Russia sees no legal obstacles to Ukraine joining our customs union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, which has started functioning," Nesterenko said at a press briefing in Moscow on Friday.

This matter must be studied, Nesterenko said, having recalled the organization’s accession regulations. The first step requires the state to be a member of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC), then it should join the legal framework of the customs union.

"Certainly, to be resolved the issue requires a consensus of the EurAsEC member states at the first stage and that from the customs union member states at the second one," Nesterenko said.
