The price of Russian gas supplied to Ukraine after the second quarter of 2015 will depend on the price of gas in neighboring countries, Gazprom chief executive officer Alexei Miller said at a Valdai Club conference in Berlin.

Ukraine has been granted a discount of $100 per 1,000 cubic meters for the second quarter.

“The level of the discount that will be extended in future will be
guided by the level of prices in countries neighboring Ukraine,” Miller
said.

“The market situation dramatically changed the situation with reverse
gas shipments to Ukraine. Everything changed quickly. You know that the
price of gas for Ukraine ($247) is currently far lower than prices for a
number of countries of the European Union. And this immediately had an
impact on reverse shipments. Compared to the maximum figures for reverse
shipments to Ukraine in the first quarter, the level of reverse
supplies to Ukraine in the second quarter is 15 percent lower. And Hungary has
completely halted supplies – it’s simply not profitable. And the amount
of reverse shipments going to Ukraine now, one can assume that they are
related to the fact that the contracts were signed for a longer period,”
Miller said.
