Russian vehicles carrying humanitarian aid for eastern Ukraine will be driven by Russians, accompanied by personnel from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), said ICRC Ukraine mission spokesman Andre Loersch.

Ukraine has agreed to let in not only Russian trucks, but also one Russian driver in each vehicle, he said on the 112.Ukraine TV channel on Aug. 19 evening. All other accompanying persons will be ICRC officers, he said.

He also said that the convoy has not crossed the border yet and hopefully, the vehicles will move into Ukraine once necessary procedures are completed. The aid is being carried in a total of 262 trucks, the ICRC official said.

Loersch also noted that in the past three days ICRC officers have been distributing the aid sent by the Ukrainian government to Luhansk region, in particular, to Shakhtarsk, Lysychansk and Severodonetsk. This aid will be distributed among 24,000 people.
