You're reading: Russian-backed insurgents continue using heavy weapons in Donetsk, Mariupol direction

The enemy shelled Ukrainian positions in Pisky and Opytne in the past 24 hours and two battles between Ukrainian military servicemen and sabotage-reconnaissance groups of militants in Slavne of the Maryinka district and Nikolayivka of the Volnovakha district were recorded.

Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for the Ukrainian presidential office, said at a briefing on June 1 that the enemy used heavy weapons in Kirove and near Svitlodarsk (near Horlivka).

He said that clashes continue in Shyrokyne.

“Yesterday the enemy was more active in the afternoon. In addition, to mortars they used 122mm heavy weapons,” he said.

He said that there were only two battles in the Luhansk direction on May 31 – the illegal armed groups used small arms near Schastia and in Zolote where is the crossing point of the separation line.

Eighteen militants’ drones were seen flying in the antiterrorist operation zone, the army press center said.
