Russian border guards are continuing to prepare to prevent mercenaries escaping from Ukraine to Russia, spokesman of National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Andriy Lysenko has said.

“The practice of the Russian Border Guard Service letting terrorists into Ukraine without letting them back again is still ongoing. At the same time, the Russians are reinforcing their checkpoints at the border so as not to let mercenaries back, as they have started fleeing from Ukraine,” Lysenko said on July 8.

According to him, additional defensive earthworks have been built in Russia’s Troyebortnoye border checkpoint, which is located in front of Ukraine’s Bachivsk checkpoint. The defenses, in the form of breastworks, are still being reinforced. All vehicles without exception are being fully inspected on entry to Russia.
