The Russian Energy Ministry is hoping to avoid gas transit wars with Ukraine, Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters.

“We work on the basis there ought to be no [transit wars]. If there are any transit wars, this will not be a normal situation and it will be necessary to respond accordingly,” Novak said.

Novak said the likelihood the European Union will lower its purchases of hydrocarbons from Russia is very low, as it currently has no sources from which to replace the amount of energy resources it gets from Russia.
