Moscow - The defense team of the Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko accused of abetting the killing of Russian journalists, has received a reply from the Russian Justice Ministry as part of a procedure of having its complaint considered by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

“ECHR sent us the material obtained from Russia following our complaint. It says that Savchenko is in satisfactory condition,” lawyer Ilya Novikov told Interfax on March 2.

On Feb. 9, Savchenko’s defense team sent a complaint to the ECHR, stating that her jail conditions are putting her life in danger, he recalled.

Before complaining to the EHCR, the defense had been unable to obtain documentation from the Matrosskaya Tishina jail, concerning Savchenko’s health condition, the lawyer said.

“Our complaint to the ECHR is a ‘procedural detour’ in order to obtain the documents we have been unable to obtain from investigators directly,” Novikov said.

He also said that Savchenko’s health is deteriorating every day. He added that she occasionally takes medical preparations given to her by doctors but has rejected intravenous feeding. The Ukrainian woman is losing one kilogram every three days, Novikov said.
