A group of Russian inspectors will make an observation flight aboard a Russian Antonov An-30B aircraft over Germany under the international Treaty on Open Skies, the head of the National Nuclear Risk Reduction Center, Sergei Ryzhkov, told Interfax-AVN on Aug. 24.

“The observation flight with a maximum range of 1,300 kilometers will be performed on Aug. 24-28 from the Cologne Bonn airport,” he said.

The Russian surveillance aircraft will be following the itinerary that was agreed upon with Germany and German specialists will be on board to ensure the proper use of the surveillance equipment and compliance with the provisions of the Treaty.

“The observation flight aims to facilitate greater openness and transparency in the military activities of the Treaty member states and to bolster security through the strengthening of confidence-building measures,” Ryzhkov said.

This is Russia’s 27th observation flight over the territories of the Treaty member states.
