RYAZAN - The condition of the Russian paratroopers who were captured in Ukraine earlier and handed over to Russia last Sunday, can be described as satisfactory, Russian Airborne Troops Commander-in-chief Vladimir Shamanov said during a visit to the Ryazan Airborne School on Sept. 1.

“At nine o’clock yesterday we flew them to army hospitals in Moscow. They underwent preliminary checks and the work will continue today,” Shamanov said.

The driver mechanic, who was moved to the military-medical academy earlier and shows signs of suffering damage to the respiratory system, has undergone a medical examination and has been prescribed a course of medical treatment; his life and health are not in danger, the commander added.

It was reported that on Aug. 25 the Russian military servicemen crossed the unmarked, unequipped section of the Russian-Ukrainian border and were held by Ukrainian security agents. On August 29, Russian president Vladimir Putin said that an agreement had been reached with Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko over the repatriation of the Russian military servicemen.
