Moscow - The Russian Red Cross and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) did not agree in Moscow on Wednesday, Aug. 27 on the Russian Red Cross' involvement in the distribution of humanitarian cargo a second Russian convoy may deliver to eastern Ukraine.

“The issue was not even discussed. There are no agreements to this effect,” Russian Red Cross head Raisa Lukutsova told Interfax on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

She said earlier that Russia’s second humanitarian convoy would be on the agenda of the Moscow meeting with ICRC officials.

The Russian Red Cross is prepared to send 35 officers to Ukraine for assisting in the distribution of the second humanitarian aid delivery. The plans to send the second humanitarian convoy have been announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The first humanitarian convoy of Russia reached southeastern Ukraine late last week. ICRC officers did not accompany the convoy because of the absence of security guarantees.

In the words of Lukutsova, the Ukrainian Red Cross has officially denied the Russian Red Cross’ involvement in the distribution of the first humanitarian shipment in southeastern Ukraine. The Russian Red Cross officers cannot visit Ukraine without the consent of the ICRC and the Ukrainian Red Cross, she added.
