Moscow - Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor has blocked 252,000 expired eggs from entering Crimea, Rosselkhoznadzor's regional division said in a statement on Feb. 3.

“Inspectors have blocked the illegal import of a large consignment of expired chicken eggs from entering the peninsula. The shipment, declared as 252,000 chicken eggs, was sent to Crimea through the Dzhankoi checkpoint from LLC Marganetskaya Ptitsefabrika of Ukraine’s Dnepropetrovsk region,” the statement says.

“Aside from the eggs with a declared production date of January 22 and January 23, 2015, the wagon included eggs with a production date of January 16, 2015, and without the accompanying veterinary documentation,” the press service said.

Rosselkhoznadzor’s regional division added that if the product ended up on the market, it could pose a threat to people’s lives and health.

“The unsafe chicken eggs have been returned to Ukraine,” the watchdog said.
