Moscow has received no request from Kyiv for the extradition of former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych or other former senior Ukrainian officials, Russia's prosecutor general said.

“If any such requests come in they will receive consideration under international treaties and Russian law,” Yury Chaika told Russian government newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta in an interview to be published on Jan.12.

Chaika said contacts between the offices of the two countries’ chief prosecutors had stayed unsevered despite the change of government in Ukraine last winter.

“On the whole, we maintain necessary contacts with the Ukrainian Office of the Prosecutor General. Among other things we send in requests for legal assistance to Russian investigation authorities and give consideration to such requests from the Ukrainian side,” Chaika said.
