You're reading: Savchenko inquiry extended until 2015

MOSCOW - The inquiry into the captive Ukrainian pilot, Nadia Savchenko, accused in Russia of abetting the killing of journalists has been extended until next year, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax on Oct. 20.

“The period of inquiry has been extended until 2015,” the source said.

For his part, the suspect’s lawyer Mark Feigin told Interfax that this information has not been confirmed with the defense team. “However, I am certain that this was done automatically: since they asked for Nadia’s arrest to be extended, it means that that the inquiry period has been extended, too,” Feigin said.

Earlier on Oct. 20 a spokeswoman for the Basmanny Court of Moscow, Anna Fadeyeva, said that the request for an extension of Savchenko’s custody will be considered on Oct. 27.
