You're reading: SBU ends probe against 82 former high-ranking officials

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has finished the investigation with respect to 82 high-ranking officials and passed the materials to the Prosecutor General's Office, with measures being taken to return the property stolen by these persons, SBU Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko has said.

“SBU has finished the investigation into the accounts and property of 82 former high-ranking officials, who worked in the government of the former president in 2010-2013, and passed the materials to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine,” Nalyvaichenko said.

“What’s important is what SBU continues to do with regard to 82 former high-ranking officials: together with EU, U.S. and UK agencies [SBU] took measures to search, arrest and bring back the stolen [property] in any form (real estate or assets on accounts),” he said.

According to him, all of these officials were declared suspects and were put on the wanted list under a decree issued by the Prosecutor General’s Office. The work as part of Ukrainian justice has been completed and “there is no doubt that they [the former officials] must be extradited and taken to court by force,” he said.

Nalyvaichenko promised soon to hold a briefing and announce the information regarding 82 former officials and measures being taken by EU member countries with respect to them.

The SBU chief said he was confident that the extradition of these persons to Ukraine was only a matter of time.
