You're reading: SBU: Police arrest criminals who planned terrorist attack in Odesa on May 18

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented a terrorist attack in Odesa, SBU Chief Valentyn Nalyvaichenko has said.

“Yesterday at Kulikovo Field in Odesa at 2 pm the SBU liquidated and
prevented a terrorist attack. Citizen Shabalin, who, under preliminary
counter-intelligence surveillance, together with the group of criminals,
planted a car bomb in this very place with the intent to killing people
and continuing the kind of events we saw on May 2,” Nalyvaichenko said
at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.

The SBU chief added that the terrorist attack was prevented by the
joint efforts of the SBU, Interior Ministry and prosecutor’s office. The
criminals have been detained, and sent to Kyiv, and an inquiry is being
carried out.
