You're reading: Schulz hopes parliament election in Ukraine will add stability

BRUSSELS - Ukraine needs stable institutions of power, and the snap parliamentary election scheduled for Oct. 26, 2014, gives hope for more constructive work of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, European Parliament President Martin Schulz said.

The incumbent Ukrainian parliament does not reflect the situation in the country in terms of Ukrainians’ political views. “I expect there will be a new Rada, a new government, and there will be a chance that the Rada will start working more intensely and constructively with President Petro Poroshenko,” Schulz said at a press conference in Brussels.

The recent presidential election on May 25, when Poroshenko was elected president, have already added stability in Ukraine.

“I hope this [parliamentary] election will give the country a little more internal stability,” he added.
