Investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) suspect 37 citizens of the Russian Federation of committing crimes designed to undermine Ukrainian national security.

“Thirty-seven Russian citizens are suspected in committing crimes… against the foundation of Ukraine’s national security,” the Chief of the Main Investigative Department of SBU Vasyl Vovk said at a press conference in Kyiv on Dec. 10.

According to Vovk, since February 2014, the SBU has opened over 3,000 criminal proceedings connected to crimes against the national security and public order.

“As of today, SBU investigators are working on 1,739 cases that involve over 500 suspects. Two hundred of them were put on a wanted list, 223 more were remanded in custody after being accused of committing a crime,” Vovk said.

In particular, 1,037 criminal proceedings were opened under the article “terrorist act,” 76 – under “high treason,” 53 – under “sabotage” and 9 – under “spying.”
