The shelling of the village of Sartana (a suburb of Mariupol) was preceded by reconnaissance conducted by a Russian drone, spokesman for the Information Analytical Center of the National Security and Defense Center Andriy Lysenko has said.

“It has been established that on Oct. 14, Russian drone conducted active reconnaissance in the area. At 14.30 p.m. the terrorists started shelling Sartana department of the border service using Grad rocket launchers, which were located in the area of the seized Shyrokyne village. Border guards suffered no losses from the shelling. The shelling was adjusted directly from the drone. Since at that moment, a funeral procession was held on the outskirts of the village, the terrorists shifted their aim there,” he said at a briefing on Wednesday.

According to Lysenko, the funeral procession came under fire. According to preliminary data, seven villagers were killed, 18 wounded.

“At the same time, terrorists fired at the anti-terrorist operation positions near the village of Shevchenko and Talakivka near Mariupol. No servicemen have been injured,” he added.
