Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Minister Pavlo Sheremeta has decided to hand in his resignation.

“Instead of continuing to fight with yesterday’s system, I decided to focus on the work with tomorrow’s people who will create tomorrow’s system,” he wrote on his page on Facebook.

The government told Interfax-Ukraine that the minister wrote a statement of resignation on Aug. 20 and then it was sent to the Verkhovna Rada.

Earlier media reported about the resignation of the minister, but he denied such reports, noting that the ill-wishers of him and his reforms are behind them.

Sheremeta is founder of Kyiv Mohyla Business School, and president of Kyiv School of Economics. In 2008-2011, he worked as president and senior consultant of the Malaysia Blue Ocean Strategy Institute. He became the economy minister on Feb. 27, when the current composition of the government led by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk was approved.
